Globalization<\/span> <\/b>implied, among other things, the erosion of national borders and, with this, a profound change in <\/span>States\u2019 sovereignty<\/b><\/span>. Drug trafficking, climate change, terrorism and, as a product of all of them, the migratory phenomenon (which ranges from Central and South America to the remotest corners of the Middle East) show that, since these problems are not restricted to a mere national border, only <\/span>coordinated action <\/b><\/span>(carried out by the different agents of today\u2019s world)<\/span> is needed <\/span>to solve them<\/b><\/span>. Nothing like the latest pandemic to exemplify this.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This reasoning can also be taken to a <\/span>smaller scale<\/b><\/span>; we can say the same thing about the inner dynamics of a company. Who would dare, in today’s turbulent world, to venture out alone and without the help and experience of others? An interesting point here has to do with the apparent correlation between “<\/span><\/span>multinational SMEs<\/b><\/span>“<\/span> \u2014something that seems almost an oxymoron (small but with international scope)\u2014 and respect for diversity. This international scope is attributed, at least partly, to the attitude of curiosity and shared learning, as well as to the multifaceted environment in which these exchanges take place and these enterprises emerge.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Diversity in the business world<\/h2>\n

Cultural diversity<\/b><\/span>,<\/span> in addition to being a key piece to knowing more than<\/span> one single story <\/span><\/i>and building a <\/span>“tolerably fair” society<\/b><\/span>, is something essential to improving professional performance. As <\/span>Harvard University’s<\/b> Business Review<\/b><\/span> argues: “<\/span>D<\/span>iversity unlocks innovation by creating an environment where \u2018outside the box\u2019 ideas are heard<\/span>” (HBR, <\/span><\/span>How Diversity Can Drive Innovation<\/span><\/i><\/a>, <\/span><\/i>2013).\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Diversity<\/b><\/span>, whether concerning gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, professional experiences and personal backgrounds, allows <\/span>a company and working group to take on new perspectives<\/b><\/span>, advocate for <\/span>equity among human beings <\/b><\/span>and, enriched by these differences, develop a <\/span>holistic view <\/b><\/span>and <\/span>a better approach<\/b><\/span> to the<\/span> objectives set out to achieve.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
